Cruise lines need to fill up their ships as much as possible as they have high fixed costs and about half of their income is generated by travelers spending their money on the boat. This means in the current economic situation cruise lines will offer great last minute deals as they are competing for tourists and want to fill up their ships as much as possible.

In the earlier days a last minute could really be a last minute deal by going to the terminal on the day of departure and look for a deal.
